LostAndFound Consumer App Privacy

LostAndFound consumer app privacy

Updated 9 October 2026. This notice describes the LostAndFound consumer app for iPhone and Android. It supplements the LostAndFound.com Privacy Policy, which describes the company responsible for the Services, your privacy rights, and our general data practices.

Information used by the app

  • Your account: email address, name, password authentication, phone number and profile or address details you choose to provide.
  • Reports and recovery: item descriptions, photos, report locations, messages, claims, ownership proof, return contact details and shipping records. Published lost and found reports are public. Private registry notes, messages and claim information are limited to the accounts and service staff entitled to access them.
  • Location: when you choose a nearby search or location autofill, the app requests your device location. You can enter a location manually instead. The consumer app does not track your location in the background or offer device or buddy tracking.
  • Photos and scanning: camera and photo-library access is requested when you choose to photograph an item, select a photo or scan a label. Uploaded photos are processed for size and format and stripped of embedded EXIF metadata.
  • Notifications: if you enable notifications, a device push token and your notification preferences are stored to deliver account, message, claim and saved-search alerts.
  • Purchases: when store purchasing is available, Apple or Google handles the purchase. LostAndFound stores product and transaction information to verify purchases, apply listing upgrades, restore access and process refunds or subscription changes. Stored purchase receipt references are encrypted.
  • Safety: blocked-account relationships, abuse reports and reported-content evidence are stored to enforce your controls and allow staff to review concerns.

Device storage and permissions

The app saves preferences, guest bookmarks and unfinished report drafts on your device. Native sign-in credentials use iOS Keychain or Android secure storage. Passwords and card details are not saved in report drafts. You can clear saved device data from Account settings.

You can refuse camera, photo, location or notification access, or change access in your device settings. Refusing a permission limits the corresponding optional feature.

Service providers

We use service providers for hosting, photos, notifications, support and the recovery services you request. Where available and selected, these include Apple or Google for store purchases, APNs or Firebase for push notifications, Braintree for physical-return card payments, EasyPost for shipping, and Plaid for identity verification. Their processing is also subject to their own privacy notices. Identity-verification details are described in our Privacy Policy and biometric information notice and consent.

The consumer app does not use an advertising identifier for cross-app advertising tracking. External websites opened from the app have their own privacy and cookie practices.

Account deletion and retention

In the app, open Account settings and choose Delete my account. Confirm with your current password and type DELETE. You can also request account deletion without installing the app.

Account deletion disables sign-in, removes or anonymizes your profile and address information, clears saved account collections and notification registrations, and disables your listings and return labels. Records needed for completed returns, payments, fraud prevention, safety investigations, inventory history or legal obligations may be retained. Shared conversation and claim history may remain where needed for the other participants and those purposes. Our Privacy Policy describes retention.

Deleting your LostAndFound account does not cancel an Apple or Google subscription. Manage subscriptions in your store account. You can request deletion even if you no longer have the app installed.

Children and contact

The Services are not intended for children under 13. Contact cs@lostandfound.com with privacy questions, deletion requests or concerns about information supplied by a child.
